A Bombshell is dropping in Chesterfield.
Scott and Melissa Black, owners of Bombshell Brazilian Waxing and Skin Care Studio, in November leased space at 4821 Commonwealth Centre Parkway for their third Richmond area location.
Bombshell offers tanning, hair, nail and waxing services. The husband-and-wife team opened the first Bombshell in Carytown in 2009. A second store opened in Short Pump in 2012, and they expect to open a Bombshell in Las Vegas next year. The Southside shop is slated for a January opening.

“It’s going to be our flagship look that we’re going to try to take to our other locations,” Scott Black said of the Chesterfield outpost. “We’re honing our business model and really getting our brand down.”
Renovations on the 2,500-square-foot space will cost about $125,000, Black said, and he expects the entire project to cost about $225,000. The Bombshell in Chesterfield will hire 18 to 20 people.
Black said they saw a need for their salon on the Southside and polled the area’s residents to help determine where to set up shop.
Located in the Commonwealth Center, the new Bombshell will be surrounded by stores, including Stein Mart, Barnes & Noble and Michaels, and next to a Bath & Body Works.
“There’s going to be a lot of foot traffic, and, with all the parking, it will be easy to get in and out,” Scott Black said.
Brokers Jim McVey and Morgan Trible of Commonwealth Commercial Partners represented the shopping center’s landlord in lease.
Scott Black said that having a location in Chesterfield would save some of Bombshell’s clients from having to make the trip to West Broad Village or Carytown, freeing up appointments at those spots for more business.
Bombshell’s bottom line has grown along with the business’s expansion. It was recognized this year as one of Richmond’s fastest-growing companies in the inaugural RVA 25.
The newest Bombshell is set to open almost four years to the day after the Blacks opened their first store in Carytown. And they’re not stopping there.
“We’re planning on moving into Reston and Georgetown,” Scott Black said. “I think we’ll be locking into those spots by the end of 2014.”
