Martin’s cut the ribbon this morning on its first Richmond-area store that was never under the Ukrop’s name.
The new 74,000-square-foot store at 200 Charter Colony Parkway will replace the nearby Martin’s at 1220 Sycamore Square.
It includes a pharmacy, a Starbucks and cafe seating for 50. Bon Secours will open its first Fast Care clinic within the store before the end of the year.
Union First Market Bank also has a small branch inside the store.
Martin’s brought in a full-time nutritionist, Caroline Roessler, to provide classes, tours, community work and one-on-one health consultations with customers. There is one other Martin’s nutritionist in the area who works between two other stores.
Lou Luscher, who was the store manager of the Sycamore Square location, will run the Charter Colony shop.
A preview event was held on Thursday, and Martin’s staff presented $1,000 donations to several local organizations. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening events are scheduled for today.
Martin’s parent company Ahold, which also operates Giant, bought out Ukrop’s in 2010 for $140 million and took over its 25 stores. The Charter Colony store is its first in the area that was built new and not part of the Ukrop’s former empire.
T.K. Davis Construction was the general contractor on the project.
