Less than two years after buying its way into the Richmond market, TowneBank is officially up and running in its new local headquarters, complete with its own place in the downtown skyline.
The Suffolk-based bank on Aug. 1 opened for business in 26,000 square feet spread through Gateway Plaza, downtown’s newest office tower. The new space replaces the bank’s previous local headquarters at 4501 Cox Road in Innsbrook, which it took on through its acquisition of the former Franklin Federal Savings Bank in early 2015.
The bank’s Gateway Plaza digs include executive and wealth management offices on the building’s seventh floor and a retail branch, and private and commercial banking office on the first floor. It has about 30 employees spread across the two floors.
TowneBank’s deal in the building also included its name at the peak of the 307,000-square-foot, 18-story tower on Cary and Canal streets between Eighth and Ninth streets.
It has retained the Cox Road office for about 40 employees working in the bank’s mortgage and commercial lending and other divisions.
TowneBank is led in Richmond by regional president Pat Collins, a veteran of the local banking scene who most recently was with the former StellarOne Bank. Its local top three is rounded out by commercial banking head Brad Booker and chief credit officer Richard Dickinson.

Nice! I’m kind of hoping they buy out Union Bank and drag them into the 21st century. They’re sorely behind Towne Bank in advancements and could use some fresh folks running the bank.
