A South Carolina developer has added to its Richmond-area holdings.
Spartanburg-based Johnson Development Associates recently purchased a 3.9-acre parcel at 1671 Mall Drive in Chesterfield. A self-storage facility is planned, according to plans submitted to the county.
Johnson paid $2 million for the property through an LLC, according to data provided by Colliers International. Online county property records did not reflect the sale or a closing date. The seller was Robious Road Holdings LLC.
Colliers’ Matt Hamilton represented Johnson in the deal. He declined to comment. Messages left for the developer were not returned.
Johnson develops industrial and commercial properties, focusing specifically on multifamily, self-storage facilities and warehouses.
The purchase adds to the company’s holdings in the Richmond market area. It is developing a $10 million self-storage facility in Short Pump on a 4-acre property off Tom Leonard Drive.
Other local projects have included a $39 million warehouse in Hanover that houses a 311,000-square-foot Vitamin Shoppe distribution center.
The Chesterfield parcel, north of Chesterfield Town Center, is at the intersection of Mall Drive and Robious Road. It is across Mall Drive from a new Aldi store and near the 368-unit Clairmont at Chesterfield Apartments, built in 2015 by Virginia Beach-based Kotarides Builders.
Kotarides recently purchased the apartments portion of HHHunt’s River Mill development in Henrico.
The architect on the Chesterfield project is McMillan Pazdan Smith, which has an office in Spartanburg.
