The Goochland County home of a local investor, entrepreneur and minority owner of Richmond’s AA baseball team is on deck.
The 9,400-square-foot house at 13284 Barkstone Court in Goochland’s Rivergate community hit the market over the weekend, with an asking price of $2.1 million. Sheri Rosner of Long & Foster’s Virginia Properties has the listing.
The sellers are Brian and Melissa Callaghan, according to county property records. They purchased the six-bedroom, eight-plus-bathroom house in 2005 for $1.97 million. The 2.1-acre property was most recently assessed at $1.72 million.
Brian Callaghan is a founder and former co-CEO of Apex Systems, a Glen Allen-based IT staffing firm that was acquired in 2012 for $600 million. The Virginia Tech grad also owns a minority stake in the Richmond Flying Squirrels, having signed on as the ball club’s first local investor in 2010.
Rosner declined to discuss the Callaghans’ plans other than to say they’re remaining local.
Rosner listed the house Sunday, but isn’t showing it until after an agents’ preview Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon. She said showings thereafter will be by appointment only.
She said she’s marketing the listing online through multiple search engines. She said the listing will also be featured on the front page of the February issue of Estates & Homes magazine.
With six bedrooms, a swimming pool and a playground area, Rosner said the home would most appeal to buyers with large families.
“It’s a family-friendly estate home,” she said. “It’s a little over 2 acres; it’s a corner lot, so it’s got the privacy; and it’s got a lot of flexibility because of the big spaces offered both inside the house and above the detached garage.”
With that garage and another three bays attached to the house, the listing may also appeal to car enthusiasts, with enough room to store six vehicles. The space above the detached garage totals almost 800 square feet and can be used as a gym, office or guest house, Rosner said.
The property also includes a walk-in heated pool with a hot tub, a stone feature with a water slide, and a nearly 300-square-foot pool house with kitchenette, full bath and screened porch.
The house – built in 2004 by Goochland-based R&N Construction – includes a two-story foyer, banquet-size dining room, first- and second-floor laundry rooms, a library-study and a third-floor media room.
The first-floor master suite includes a dressing area, walk-in closet, and full bath with steam shower, jetted tub and dual toilet rooms. Each of the six bedrooms has its own full bathroom.
The house is the latest listing in the area priced above $2 million. Just east of Rivergate, a 7,600-square-foot house listed last year at 300 Wickham Glen Drive remains on the market for just under $2.3 million.
