A local hotel group is looking to bring a new brand to the Richmond market.

Richmond-based BK Hospitality LLC is planning to construct the region’s first Avid Hotel on about 5 acres at 2302 and 2310 Willis Road near the Willis Road and Interstate 95 interchange in Chesterfield, according to a preliminary plan filed with the county’s planning department.

Avid is a new hotel brand owned by the InterContinental Hotels Group, whose other flags include Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza and Staybridge Suites.

BK Hospitality’s plans call for an existing roadway between the McDonald’s and Shell Gas station that front Willis Road to be extended through the property, leading up to the proposed four-story, 80-room hotel, documents show.

A timeline for construction and a cost estimate for the project were not disclosed.

Petersburg-based Site Design Co. is the project site engineer. A general contractor for the project was not listed.

Bhavesh Patel, who is listed as the project’s owner and developer, could not be reached for comment Thursday afternoon.

IHG opened its first Avid-branded hotel in Oklahoma City in August, according to its website. The company has plans to open 150 additional Avid Hotels across North America and Mexico.

The layout of Avid locations include a lobby and gathering area, along with a gym, according to its prototype book. Other guest amenities include a complimentary breakfast and IHG Studio-branded technology that allows guests to sync their smartphones, and other personal devices, to televisions in the room.

Avid adds to a growing tally of new-to-the-market hotels looking to make a name in greater Richmond.

Drury Development Corp. is well underway on its eight-story, 217-room Drury Plaza Hotel at 11049 W. Broad St., across from Innsbrook.

Chester-based Shamin Hotel Group is planning to build the region’s first Home2 Suites by Hilton in the Towne Center West development, and has another new hotel in the works at 501 E. Franklin St. in downtown Richmond — where it is converting an old office building into an 87-room Moxy Hotel by Marriott.
