A tech company rooted in South Asia has planted a local office near Innsbrook.
Wipro, an India-based publicly traded IT consulting and analytics firm doing business in 57 countries, cut the ribbon Tuesday on a 10,000-square-foot office in the SunTrust Center Two building at 11013 W. Broad St.
Wipro Vice President Sharad Gupta said the company has had about 100 employees in Richmond, most working remotely or out of the offices of its clients, such as Capital One and Amazon Web Services.
The space will serve as the company’s regional engineering office. Gupta said Wipro moved into the new office earlier this fall and plans to hire an additional 200 employees in the next two years.
Gupta said the company began searching for a new Mid-Atlantic engineering hub about a year ago and was drawn to Richmond due to its proximity to universities, such as VCU, Virginia Tech and UVA.
Wipro is leasing the space in the 206,000-square-foot SunTrust Center Two building, which is now fully occupied.
Other tenants in SunTrust Center Two include Home Care Delivered, a medical supply company, and Magellan Healthcare. Thalhimer’s Amy Broderick and Jeff Cooke are its listed agents.
SunTrust Center previously has housed offices for Altria Group, MeadWestvaco (now WestRock) and Capital One. The pair of office buildings sold in 2018 for $62.4 million to D.C.-based FD | Stonewater.
