Another charcoal rotisserie-powered restaurant is about to start turning in the Richmond region.
Fire & Chicken has signed a lease to open a second location, in the Brandy Hill Plaza shopping center at 7073 Mechanicsville Turnpike.
The expansion was confirmed by owner Miguel Gutierrez, who opened his first Peruvian-style chicken joint at 115 N. Washington Highway in Ashland in late 2020. The restaurant offers burritos, tacos, sandwiches and more made with rotisserie chicken, as well as quarter, half and whole chickens. Nonpoultry dishes include ceviche and carne asada.
Gutierrez said the Mechanicsville location will have the same menu and fast-casual setup as the original Fire & Chicken.
“It’s kind of like fast food, you order at the counter,” Gutierrez said.
At around 3,500 square feet, the new location will be slightly larger than his original spot, Gutierrez said. He hopes to have it open in a few months, and will look to continue expanding within the Richmond region.
“That’s the idea. I’ve heard a lot about the southeast (part of town) but I’m not sure yet,” Gutierrez said.
One of Fire & Chicken’s local peers in the rotisserie chicken game has been on a growth kick of its own. Chicken Fiesta recently opened its sixth Richmond-area location at 8211 Brook Road in the Northside, and has a seventh in the works in Chester.

Trendiness is funny. For a while, when a restaurant (or other selling entity) wanted to brand itself as some kind of taste sensation it would call itself a ONE word thing — like Savor or Comfort or Appetite — now it has to be _______ and ________. You can’ call your artisanal pocket knife company “Knife” or “Slice” — it has to be “Fire and Steel” —- for now. I remember the year that I joked that “Artisanal” was my Offical Overused Word of the Year — I don’t remember exactly WHAT year it was, but I do remember generally… Read more »
I wish Fire & Chicken well! Chicken Fiesta has totally priced themselves out of my fast food budget. Chicken Fiesta’s rate of high price increases have been frequent. A full rotisserie chicken with 2 sides, self served at a counter, and on a plastic plate and styrofoam containers is $21.00. A large soft burrito is $12.00, and a single chicken taco is $3.25, again, counter served on a plastic plate or styrofoam containers. For those types of prices, I will go to a full service sit down restaurant and get free chips and salsa.
While I agree food prices for prepared food are much higher, this issue isn’t only at Chicken Fiesta. Most locally owned places now have similar prices if the food isn’t fried/cheap. Sally Bell’s and Roots are around the same price bracket for locally owner counter service.
Tacos at Plaza Azteca (a sit-down place) are $5.66 each, (Sold in threes) and a Burrito is $15 to $19 bucks.
