A local insurance company is making a bigger bet on its Innsbrook headquarters.

Richmond National Group has expanded its headquarters at 3951 Westerre Parkway by about 7,200 square feet, a company spokesperson said this week. The firm underwrites specialized property, professional liability and casualty products for small- and mid-sized companies.

Before the $350,000 expansion, the company’s offices were a little more than 10,000 square feet. D&H Construction handled the build-out of the expanded space.

Richmond National’s offices occupy a portion of the 79,000-square-foot Westerre I building.

Richmond National is planning to hire more than 100 people to join its ranks as part of its expansion. The spokesperson said the company is hiring across departments but with an emphasis on underwriters. No specific timeline was shared regarding when the company plans to meet that hiring goal.

The company currently has more than 75 employees.

Richmond National also considered Chicago and North Carolina for the project, according to a governor’s office news release that announced the expansion Wednesday.

“Virginia, and the Richmond area in particular, has a strong base of talented employees in the insurance and financial services sectors that can help support our growth. Also, the area is a supportive environment for business and entrepreneurship. We considered several places within North Carolina and other states as we evaluated our growth plans,” the company said in a statement.

Henrico Economic Development Authority was assisted by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership to secure the project for the county. Richmond National will be able to take advantage of the state-funded Virginia Jobs Investment Program, which provides consulting and funding to help companies recruit and train employees.

The office expansion news comes after Richmond National announced in March that it raised more than $30 million in new capital from existing shareholders HF Capital, Bonhill Capital, WT Holdings and employees.

The company has raised more than $100 million in equity capital since it was launched in 2021.  Richmond National Group is the holding company for Richmond National Insurance Co.

In other Innsbrook office moves, flex-office company Business Center International changed hands earlier this year, and accounting firms Kimble CPA and KWC recently moved into a new office on Cox Road after their merger last summer.

“Richmond National also considered Chicago and North Carolina for the project” Chicago was never considered – companies are fleeing the taxes and crime. The fact that we beat out NC – now THAT is an accomplishment!

Totally agree, but I think the downvotes show that there is SOME weakness here in Richmond if they want to defend Chicago which is going from the capital of corruption to the capitol of incompetence.
