The Shops at 5807 on Patterson Avenue in the West End has planted its flag in Bon Air.
Owner Kate Thomas earlier this month opened The Shops at 5807 South in the Trader Joe’s-anchored Stony Point Village Shopping Center.
Like the original location that opened at the corner of Patterson and Libbie avenues in 2006, the new 5807 outpost is an indoor market that rents out space to multiple independent vendors, though the Southside space is smaller.
5807 South has about a dozen vendors, most of which are businesses that are also tenants in the West End location. Thomas said she asked top-performing tenants in the original location, which has 25 vendors, to follow her south.
RVYay Toys, Paper on the Avenue, Heirloom Home, Cronies, All About the Beverage and Shannon Reppard Designs have presences in both locations, as does Madras, which is a women’s clothing concept owned by Thomas.
The other vendors in 5807 South are Let’s Talk Towels, Glass Oven Art, H2 Design and Baggio.
Thomas said the Southside location is currently full and isn’t accepting more vendors. Tenants pay a rental fee on space as well as a commission on sales.
Thomas said she was inspired by suggestions from friends to expand to the Southside.
“I have a bunch of friends from the Southside and they were like, ‘You should open something here,’” she said in an interview last week. “They didn’t want to cross the bridge.”
She settled on a 2,800-square-foot space at 3008 Stony Point Road next to an outpost of local ice cream chain Gelati Celesti.
Thomas said that traversing the local north-south divide created by the James River has helped introduce the concept to new customers, and she added she’s been happy with the foot traffic in the space since opening June 3.
“So many people have come in and don’t know what 5807 is,” she said.
Thomas declined to comment on buildout costs at the new space, which was formerly occupied by Redemption Books.
Thomas has owned The Shops at 5807 since she bought it from the original founders in May 2019.

Welcome to Stony Point, thrilled to have you as a neighbor!

I’ve always heard great things about The Shops at 5807. Glad to have a convenient location nearby.
Did a google map; the locations are 4.3 miles apart and about a 10 min drive via the Huguenot Bridge. That seems a little close to me. I would have thought some place like Sycamore Square or Midlothian Green might be a better southside location.
Do you think the owner didn’t do her homework on what zip codes (based on credit card transactions) shop at 5807 before selecting a new location? As a city resident, I’m glad she chose a city address and not a Chesterfield location.
Congrats!! All the best to you!
