Restaurant chain with a Ford Motor Co. theme to open in Short Pump

West Broad Village has landed another new-to-market restaurant chain.

Ford’s Garage is preparing to open at 11275 W. Broad St.

Despite its name, the concept isn’t an auto shop and isn’t owned by Ford Motor Co., but rather a restaurant designed to emulate a 1920s-era service station featuring the storied auto manufacturer’s name and branding.

Ford’s Garage locations often include a Ford Model A car suspended over the bar and front-of-house staff in retro auto shop uniforms.

Its menu similarly leans on Americana with plenty of burgers and barbecue, as well as an extensive draught beer list. Most burgers, sandwiches and salads are in the $14 to $16 range.

Ford’s Garage filed plans with Henrico County to take over the 6,500-square-foot restaurant outparcel at West Broad Village, and also lists it as “Coming Soon” on its website.

The company operates a franchise model and has 29 locations throughout the country, and the Richmond spot would be its first in Virginia.

Spokespeople for Ford’s Garage were not available for comment by press time.

The West Broad Street building has housed a few different restaurants since West Broad Village was built around 15 years ago, including Mimi’s Café, Carolina Ale House and most recently MPM Tiki Bar, which recently relocated within the development.

The pending arrival of Ford’s Garage continues a busy year of churn in West Broad Village’s restaurant spaces. Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chão opened in the old Kona Grill space at 11221 W. Broad St., while Carrabba’s Italian Grill closed at 11237 W. Broad St. after a decade.

Will the wait staff have to speak to their manager before settling on a final menu price?

Hopefully it’s not a Sheehy owned franchise.

Ford had thousands of great quotes.

My favorite one that I can remember is “Cut your own wood and it warms you twice.”

I like the concept but can’t see it being all that successful with the bourgeois Tesla crowd.

I guess with gasoline rushing to 4 bucks a gallon, a $16 burger is to be expected. But really, is a burger worth four gallons of gas?

Gasoline has long been the biggest bargain out there, and people have long failed to appreciate it.

Hopefully the beer tap system is more reliable than a Ford. And yes, I drive a Ford so I’ve earned the right to make this comment….

What makes you so certain? Everything else being equal, such as management and the popularity of the food choices, this is a UNIQUE CONCEPT, certainly compared to almost everything else in Richmond. Actual men tend to like cars and trucks and tools and stuff, and not just older men — and don’t forget their boys often do too (I say this while never having been a car or truck guy, and I had a female cousin that was obsessed with Tractor-traliers and wanted to be a trucker when she grew up, but she was unusual, like me — I was… Read more »
