West Broad Village is set to land another new-to-market chain, this time a coffee shop from Florida.
Foxtail Coffee Co. is planning to open a cafe at the Short Pump shopping center in the fall, according to company spokeswoman Beth Cocchiarella.
It would be the first Foxtail location to open in Virginia, with more expected to follow elsewhere in the Richmond region.
In addition to espresso and cold-brew coffee, Foxtail locations sell teas, baked goods and breakfast sandwiches, among other things. The company roasts its own coffee at its flagship location in Winter Park, Florida, near Orlando.
The company has leased the 1,200-square-foot A suite at 2240 Old Brick Road in the Whole Foods-anchored West Broad Village. The Foxtail space is across the street from Park Lane Tavern and would have indoor and outdoor seating for 53 people.
Foxtail currently has nearly 70 locations, many of them in Florida. Other locations are in Georgia, Nevada and Michigan.
Cocchiarella said the Short Pump outpost is planned to be the first of three locations in the Richmond region. She didn’t share when or where those other local cafes are planned to open.
The Foxtail company, which was founded in Winter Park in 2016, franchises its concept. Cocchiarella didn’t respond to questions about whether the upcoming Short Pump cafe would be a franchised location, and if so, who would be the local operator.
The coffee shop’s space in West Broad Village is a portion of what was a larger storefront used as a home design studio by locally based homebuilder Eagle Construction, which relocated to Patterson Avenue.
The old space’s four suites are divided among Foxtail, Lucky Road Run Shop, Sokha’s Nails & Spa and a chiropractor office, according to a West Broad Village leasing flyer. The nail salon is currently operating. The other tenants have yet to open.
In other West Broad Village news, car-themed eatery Ford’s Garage is planning to open its first location in the region in the standalone building previously occupied by MPM Tiki Bar, which recently relocated within the shopping center. And the Carrabba’s Italian Grill at West Broad Village recently shuttered and remains vacant.
Foxtail’s expansion into Richmond comes as other coffee shop brands both local and out-of-town are on the move in the region.
Charlottesville-based Mudhouse is set to open its first local spot in the Arts District next month. Mobile coffee shop Daily Coffee Co. recently got moving after its coffee truck was stolen and then recovered. Down in Chesterfield, a local couple is opening Mugshot Coffee, which will be part cafe and part portrait studio. Also in Chesterfield, Arkansas-based 7Brew has several locations planned.

Thank goodness we are finally getting some more coffee shops in the West End. Next stop Midlothian.
I like the interior design.
Stopping by on my way to REI!
