Bon Secours is kicking off plans for a multi-clinic expansion of its urgent care arm with a Midlothian location set to open later this month.
The health system plans to open a roughly $2 million urgent care outpost on June 19 at 14163 Midlothian Turnpike. The clinic will feature eight exam rooms as well as an X-ray room and lab area.
The 4,400-square-foot clinic is in a relatively new outparcel strip that’s also home to a Chipotle at Ivymont Square shopping center.
That Midlothian clinic is planned to be the first of five urgent care facilities to be opened by Bon Secours in the region this year.
The other four locations to open this year are planned near Regency mall, at the health system’s East End medical office building, in the Innsbrook area and in the Swift Creek area of Chesterfield.
Those clinics will be similar in size and investment to the Midlothian location.
The expansion comes in a bid by Bon Secours to provide more accessible medical care to patients, spokeswoman Jenna Green said.
“Busy families and consumers need access to care for minor illnesses and injuries at times and in places convenient to their lives – and traditional primary care offices aren’t open after hours or weekends. Additionally, we find our patients want to be able to access care quickly and easily, so options that enable them to seek the appropriate level of care on their lunch hour, before work or on weekends that fits into their lives helps to improve that access,” she said in an email Tuesday.
The accelerated push into urgent care comes in the wake of competing health system HCA’s acquisition last year of the locally founded BetterMed Urgent Care chain, which has been rebranded to CareNow Urgent Care.
The walk-in urgent care centers are designed to treat minor injuries and illnesses in adults and children.
Each clinic plans to open with a staff of 10 to 12. Bon Secours is hiring for the teams to operate the clinics and is looking for radiology technicians, medical assistants, physician assistants and nurse practitioners, Green said.

The health system says it plans to open more urgent care clinics in the region next year as well, but declined to share further details.
“We have a number of locations under consideration, however we don’t have any additional information we can provide at this time,” Green said.
Bon Secours currently operates one local urgent care clinic at 9851 Brook Road in Glen Allen. It opened in 2014 as Bon Secours Good Health Express but rebranded to Bon Secours Urgent Care, Glen Allen, this year.
Bon Secours also operates hospitals, emergency centers and other facilities in the region.
