A high-end building materials company from the Iberian Peninsula is heading to Scott’s Addition.
Cosentino is preparing to open a showroom at 1324 N. Arthur Ashe Blvd., in the Mowbray Paint Co. building across from Movieland.
The showroom will be under the Cosentino City brand, described as a place where both the general public and workers in the architecture and design industries can see the Spanish company’s building and surface materials.
Cosentino expansion director Antonio Aguilar confirmed the company’s plans to open in the building at the corner of Arthur Ashe Boulevard and Norfolk Street.
For decades, 1324 N. Arthur Ashe Blvd. had been home to Mowbray Paint Co., a painting contractor. The Mowbray family sold the 124-year-old building in 2021 to local businessman Carrington Williams for $1.65 million and relocated the paint business to Gayton Road in Henrico.
Aguilar said Cosentino City showrooms are meant to be a place where folks can see examples of Cosentino’s materials as applied on façades, bathroom surfaces and other options.
“Our City locations serve as a resource for customers as they embark on their design projects,” Aguilar said in an email.

Founded in 1979, Cosentino is a privately held firm with a global footprint. Aguilar said the company has 13 City showrooms in North America and 33 worldwide, and that they chose to open in Richmond “based on the potential we saw in the market.”
“The company has a comprehensive expansion plan to open four City showrooms a year around the world,” Aguilar said.
Cosentino is getting ready to begin some extensive renovations on the 6,800-square-foot building and hopes to open in the fourth quarter of this year. The showroom is planned to have a staff of eight.
Cosentino finalized its lease last year and was represented by Colliers International’s Peter Vick and Harrison Hall. Divaris Real Estate’s Read Goode represented the landlord.
Other construction crews are already at work a few blocks south along Arthur Ashe Boulevard.
The Ace, an eight-story mixed-use building with nearly 300 apartments, is beginning to go vertical at 1117-1201 N. Arthur Ashe Blvd., and a six-story cohousing development recently got underway at 1101 N. Arthur Ashe Blvd.

Cosentino needs to see how their new neighbor, Light Tape, could enhance some of their finishes.
Better than nothing I guess
I’d argue that it’s a LOT better than you think. At the moment there are only 14 Cosentino City locations in North America, of which just nine are in the U.S., with two more locations opening (one in Hawaii and one in Dallas). That Richmond is joining the rather exclusive list of locations for one of these outlets is, IMNHSO, pretty darn impressive. Perhaps this will seed the ground for a Consentino Center location (of which there are 40-some in North America) to eventually open here. Sure, I just see that area as more of an entertainment district, than a place to show off building materials. Ironically, it would have fit in with SA like 10 years ago.
Welcome! This is a cool little building along Arthur Ashe, with its unusual porte cochere in front. Glad it will be fixed up.
I know nothing about development, but I have to assume this is an expensive piece of land for a materials showroom. That whole corridor is going to be facing the diamond/entertainment district. I would have thought something else would be more appropriate. that being said, echo the sentiments that its good to see a company like this coming to Richmond.
