Heard on the street: More law firm layoffs

hirschlerA handful of employees are being laid off at Hirschler Fleischer, according to several sources with knowledge of the situation.

Although repeated calls and emails to numerous Hirschler Fleischer attorneys and firm management were not returned over the past week, sources have told BizSense that several attorneys and other staff have been or are in the process of being laid off.

Chairman James Theobald took a call from BizSense on Tuesday but said that only Jim Weinberg, the firm’s president, could handle an inquiry related to rumored layoffs. Weinberg hasn’t returned several calls placed over the past week.

Sources told BizSense that the attorneys include associates from the firm’s real estate group. Lawyers that handle such transactional-type cases have been the subject of layoffs at firms nationwide since the recession took hold.

According to its website, the firm has about 75 attorneys and 10 administrative management staff members.

BizSense reported on a similar situation taking place at Hirschler Fleischer last year. You can read more about that here.

No, Bubba, not layoffs. But hopefully we’ll get some more effective replacements instead!
