Unbridled democracy broke out with a twang Tuesday night in Goochland County.
In the middle of a heated public debate about the future home of Benedictine High School, Jim Connor whipped out his banjo.
Hundreds had packed the auditorium of Goochland High School, where the county’s board of supervisors was scheduled to vote on whether to allow Benedictine to relocate to Goochland from Richmond.
Jim Connor made the most entertaining plea.
He performed “Let ‘Em In,” a song he wrote about why Benedictine should be allowed to move to Goochland. And he picked the banjo to provide some instrumentation for his ditty.
It’s surprisingly catchy and likely to get stuck in your head. And it’s no wonder the tune is so good. Connor told the board that he played in the John Denver Band and in Barbara Streisand’s backing band.
The board deferred the vote for another 90 days.
BizSense was lucky enough to get a hold of some footage of Connor’s tune. Enjoy.
