The investment arm of local insurance giant Markel Corp. has made a new acquisition.
Markel Ventures said Wednesday that it had purchased majority interest in WI Holdings, a privately held Pennsylvania company also known as Weldship that manufactures and sell tanker trailers for big rig trucks that haul gas and liquid. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
The deal is the fourth acquisition that Markel Ventures or one of its subsidiaries has made this year.
In September, Markel Ventures subsidiary AMF Bakery Systems acquired Georgia-based
Baking Technology System.
Markel Ventures acquired locally based PartnerMD, a concierge medical service, in July and local firm Diamond Healthcare in January.
Its dredging company made an acquisition in March.
Markel Venture deals typically entail buying all or a majority stake of a company and allowing the company’s existing management to continue to run the show.
