Let the bragging begin.
Next week, BizSense will introduce The List – a twice-monthly data section that ranks the top companies in Richmond’s top industries.
These lists will serve several purposes for the local business community.
First, they’re tools for anyone doing business in Richmond. The lists will be a directory of valuable contacts and leads. Each list will include the names and contact information for the key decision makers at the top companies in each industry.
They’ll also be a source of intelligence about your industry and about the competition.
And did we mention the bragging rights?
Rankings for the lists will depend on the industry. Some will be based on number of employees. Some will be based on sales, revenue or billings.
The List is the latest offering from BizSense Pro, our growing cache of premium data that we compile to give subscribers access to vital information about the inner workings of the local business community.
BizSense Pro already includes The Docket (our popular weekly list of local business lawsuits), The R&D Dept. (a listing of local patents), new business licenses, and Moving Day (the top residential property transfers in the area).
Here’s the important part: The contents of the lists depend on participation from Richmond businesses.
Each week, we’ll post a link on the BizSense Homepage and in a separate email to our 11,000 NewsFeed subscribers, letting you know what industry is up next on The List. That link will lead to a brief online survey where companies will fill out a few bits of information and submit it to our research team.
To produce this vital information, we’ve teamed with DataJoe, a company in Denver that helps compile list for business journals in the top markets across the country.
Make sure your company is not left in the dark by checking The List section each week to find out when your industry is up to bat. We’ll also post a calendar on the site with all the industries that will be ranked and when they’ll be published.
The inaugural List will be published first thing Monday morning (Feb. 20). It will feature the top banks doing business in the Richmond market. To help you get a feel for this new offering, this first List will be open to all our loyal BizSense readers.
After that, The List will be part of BizSense Pro. The BizSense Pro subscription is $65 a year for data and research that helps steer the local business world.
Although BizSense Pro is a subscription-based service, the BizSense news stories that you can’t get enough of will remain free as they have always been, as will certain data sections that have always been open to everyone.

It is a shame to see that our own home grown bank is not at the top of the list. Union First Market Bank, in my humble opinion, should be ranked high, but alas, it seems as though the large banks have taken the top spots. We, as a community, need to pull together and support our local banks as well as our other local “home grown” businesses so that they may thrive.
