Jake Crocker’s second corner is coming to life this week.
Jorge’s Cantina, which is going into the old Fan House location at Floyd Avenue and North Robinson Street, is scheduled to open Thursday, Crocker said.
The Mexican joint is a venture between Crocker and Jose Garcia of local chain Mexico Restaurant. The property’s former owner, Sunny Zhao, sold the restaurant to Crocker and Garcia after he couldn’t overcome a string of run-ins with the surrounding neighborhood.
Garcia said the new restaurant would bring a little diversity to the Fan’s food selection.
“If you look at the area, there is some good food, but the majority of it is going to be burgers and fries,” he said. “I think a Mexican restaurant will sort of break things up a bit.”
According to photos of the menu posted on Jorge’s Facebook page, the fare includes fajitas priced from $8 to $12 and appetizers such as avocado fries and taquitos priced from $5 to $8.
Jorge’s will be Crocker’s third restaurant and fourth Fan storefront in a three-block radius, including F.W. Sullivan’s, Lady N’Awlins Cajun Cafe and Uptown Market & Deli.
