A Richmond commercial real estate giant has scored a new hire and a major portfolio of properties.
Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer has added broker Allyson Petty from locally based Blackwood Development Co., who will bring with her leasing duties on about 2 million square feet worth of existing and forthcoming Blackwood-owned shopping center space.
Marc Greenberg, vice president at Blackwood Development, said the company is contracting out leasing instead of handling it in house as it pivots more of its attention towards future development.
“We had operated a one-leasing agent brokerage shop to handle our properties for some time now and it got to the point where we feel like a large brokerage operation is the preferred way to handle leasing,” he said.
The Blackwood portfolio includes the Gleneagles Shopping Center in the West End, Promenade Shops near Short Pump, Southshore Shops in Midlothian and NorthCross Center in Ashland. Planned Blackwood developments in the Midlothian Town Center and Pouncey Place near Twin Hickory Drive are also included in the package.
Connie Jordan Nielsen, director of Thalhimer’s retail services group, said Petty will continue leasing the Blackwood portfolio as a Thalhimer broker. Nielsen estimated that about half of the total 2 million-square-foot portfolio was finished. She said the roughly 1 million square feet already under roof are about 90 percent occupied.
Richmond-based Blackwood also has a $5 million retail project in the works in Hampton Roads.
