The coveted “golden guitar” trophy has new owners this year.
Dominion Energy’s Class 5 came out on top Saturday at the second annual Battle of the Corporate Bands, besting defending champions Glass House (WestRock) and Hunton & Williams’ 951 East.
The win was especially sweet for Dominion, as it was executive Dave Christian who played a part in the battle’s creation when he suggested the idea during a visit to Firehouse Theatre, which organizes the event and benefits from its proceeds.
Joining Christian in Class 5 were Virginia O’Meara on vocals, executive IT support specialist Steve Foster on bass, senior LAN administrator Josh Crump on guitar, company pilot Murray Blake on keyboard, and nuclear technician Rob Green on drums.
This year’s battle was held at The Broadberry, drawing 320 attendees and raising approximately $6,500 for the theater. The night also included a performance by a youth band from Mako Music School.
Judges included Matt Treacy of Sound of Music and Free Jambalaya, Marie Folden of Battle Music & Entertainment, and Justin Bailey of Black Iris Music. Mix 98.1’s Kat Simons emceed, and corporate sponsors included Sam Ash Music Stores and Ellwood Thompson’s.
