As part of the final step in its purchase by Union First Market Bank, the StellarOne Bank brand is history.

Richmond-based Union announced on Monday that it had fully integrated StellarOne, including doing away with the seven-year-old StellarOne name.

Founded in 2007 and until recently headquartered in Christiansburg, StellarOne was created through the merger of the former Virginia Financial Group and the parent of First National Bank of Harrisonburg.

It grew to become a nearly $3 billion bank before announcing the deal with Union last year. The combined bank now has $7 billion in assets and 131 branches, making it the largest community bank based in Virginia.

The integration also involved the conversion of more than 260,000 customer files, replacing more than 80,000 debit cards and swapping out more than 700 signs.

All StellarOne branches closed on Friday and reopened Monday as Union branches.

Union added 54 StellarOne branches to its 90 storefronts as part of the acquisition. Thirteen of those closed May 9 as part of merger-related restructuring. They included StellarOne Richmond-area locations at Patterson Avenue and Robious Road.

Union also has some brand changes of its own in the works.
