Local moving and estate firm aims for $35M capital haul

After completing six acquisitions in its first three years in business, a local company is looking to bring in eight figures’ worth of funding.

WayForth, a Henrico-based moving and estate management company, began a $35 million capital raise on Dec. 9 and has garnered $9.3 million from 13 investors so far, per Dec. 20 SEC documents.

Wayforth was founded as Legacy Navigator in late 2016 by Matt Paxton, Craig Shealy and Pete Shrock. Paxton, who gained fame for his appearances on A&E’s “Hoarders” reality TV show, has since left the company and is working on a new show, “Legacy List,” which will air on local PBS station VPM.

Shealy, WayForth’s CEO, said he couldn’t comment on the raise, other than to emphasize that it may seek up to $35 million but may choose to raise less than that in the near-term.

The company’s operations now span from Boston to Charlotte, after growing via acquisition of six moving companies throughout the East Coast, including local firm Door to Door Solutions last year.

Locally, WayForth has about 70 people on staff, including 20 at its headquarters at 2107 Loumour Ave., across from the recently opened TopGolf.
