Chick-fil-A has cut the ribbon on a new location in the city, while also plotting further expansion in the counties.
The fast-food chain opens for business today (Tuesday) at its new Three James Center location at 1051 E. Cary St. downtown. The chicken sandwich-focused franchise has taken over the former Arby’s space.
It’s the third location for Chick-fil-A in the city, joining spots on VCU’s Monroe Park and medical school campuses. The Atlanta-based chain began planning the James Center spot last summer.
Elsewhere in the region, Chick-fil-A is under construction on a new location in Goochland just west of Short Pump, and has another spot in the works in Eastern Henrico, where last fall it filed plans with the county for a new-construction restaurant at 4808 Nine Mile Road.
Once home to a car dealership, the now-cleared 2-acre Nine Mile site is owned by local developer Rebkee. Henrico records show that Chick-fil-A’s plans have been making their way through the county this spring. A Green Clean Auto Wash also recently opened next door.
It’s unclear when the Goochland and Nine Mile Road locations are projected to open. Chick-fil-A did not respond to requests for comment by press time.
With the opening of the downtown spot, Chick-fil-A now has 25 locations throughout the Richmond region, per its website.

Chick-fil-a has 3 locations downtown, but 4 in the city. This article fails to mention the one on Forest Hill Ave in front of Target.
It also fails to mention the location at Chippenham Hospital which makes it 5 locations in the city.
I wish a Chic fil A was in the Hull street Old Manchester area. It would be convenient
