A national Philly cheesesteak restaurant chain is grabbing another helping of the Richmond region.
Charleys Cheesesteaks plans to open its third local franchise next month at 4101 Dominion Blvd. in the Dominion Shoppes center along the Broad Street side of Innsbrook.
The new location will be run by the same franchisee who owns the Charleys location at 1500 W. Broad St. near VCU, which opened about two years ago.
The franchisee, who asked not to be named, said his new location is expected to open in early August. Its space was previously home to a Blaze Pizza restaurant that recently closed. Other tenants in the shopping center include Starbucks and Noodles & Co.
Charleys, which started as Charley’s Steakery in 1986 and serves cheesesteaks, fries, wings and ice cream, also has a store inside Chesterfield Towne Center. That location is owned by a different franchisee and opened in 2020.
The company has more than 700 locations in 17 countries, according to its website.
Costs for the new Innsbrook-area store are estimated at $950,000 and $1 million. That’s about double what the company spent to open its downtown location, mainly due to the rise in construction and labor costs.
Hiring for the new restaurant is expected to begin next week, with a goal of having about three dozen employees.
Charleys’ expansion comes amid a busy few months in the local restaurant industry.
A local restaurant group last week opened Tequila Sunrise Mexican Kitchen & Cantina at 11581 Robious Road, its first concept in Midlothian. D.C.-area chain Taco Bamba is planning to open its first local outpost. And Carytown Burgers & Fries is searching for a new owner.
