A juice bar’s exit from the Northside looks to have opened the door for a new bagel shop to join the neighborhood.
Ms. Bee’s Juice Bar recently relocated from 114 W. Brookland Park Blvd. to 323 N. Adams St. in Jackson Ward.
The move puts the juice bar within The Hive Bar & Grill, the concept Ms. Bee’s owner Brandi Battle-Brown opened last year in the former Saison and Saison Market space.
And Ms. Bee’s former space in Brookland Park apparently won’t sit idle for long, according to permits filed the city.
Last week a building permit was filed for the storefront for “Julio’s Bagels,” which records show is tied to Union Hill restaurant Pizza Bones and its owner Ashley Patino.
Patino, who opened her pizzeria at 2314 Jefferson Ave. in 2021, declined to comment for this story.
The Brookland Park Boulevard building is owned by prolific Northside investor and developer Cory Weiner, who confirmed that a lease has been signed for the space, though he said he couldn’t disclose any further details.
The juice bar is now located at 323 Adams St. in Jackson Ward.
Ms. Bee’s move marked the end of a roughly five-year run for Battle-Brown in the Northside. She said the relocation to Jackson Ward was an effort to bring all of her operations under one roof ahead of a further expansion.
“I want to expand Ms. Bee’s and franchise in the next few years,” Battle-Brown said, noting that she has another location for the juice bar lined up but couldn’t yet say where it’ll be.
A few blocks west from Ms. Bee’s old home is 310 and 322 W. Brookland Park Blvd., where Weiner is building a pair of mixed-use buildings that’ll bring a dozen apartments to the corridor. Those buildings, which also will have ice cream shop Ruby Scoops and arts nonprofit SCRAP RVA as commercial tenants, are nearing completion, Weiner said.
Another bagel shop is in the works over in Scott’s Addition. Nate’s Bagels is working on converting 1219 Highpoint Ave. into a second location.
