A fledgling cidery has found its home in Scott’s Addition.
Buskey Cider is leasing the 7,500-square-foot space at 2910 W. Leigh St. and plans to open this fall, owner Will Correll said.
Local developer Charlie Diradour said he has owned the property since last spring. Terms of the lease are still being finalized.
Correll said he looked at properties in Scott’s Addition for more than a year before picking Diradour’s building.
The move will put Buskey in a growing neighborhood that has continued to attract startup breweries and hundreds of new residents. It will join Ardent Craft Ales and Isley Brewing Co., both of which opened in 2013. And Black Heath Meadery plans to open the first week of March at 1313 Altamont Ave., owner Bill Cavender said.
“It has awesome energy with the breweries coming in and new apartments,” Correll said.
Correll would not say how much construction will cost but did say Diradour will help with financing. Plans are set for a tasting room, warehouse and production space. Michael Pellis is the architect for the project.
Buskey Cider’s future space has been vacant since June and was formerly home to a lighting distribution company, Diradour said.
Diradour said he wanted to work with Buskey Cider because he admires Correll’s business sense and values small manufacturing businesses.
“I get to give somebody an opportunity,” Diradour said. “The creative classes are the ones who are going to bring this economy back to where it should be.”

Good for Charlie! Piece by piece he’s helping the Scott’s Addition area become a community.
Love seing the swell of support for entrepreneurs and craftsman in the #RVA area and especially in Scott’s Edition. Great to read Charlie was involved and assisting where possible. The idea of having a manufacture/local commerce mix of purpose in another building there brings activity to the area involving people. Perfect application and choice! Best of luck Will. Can’t wait to try the product first hand.
Congratulations Will! Looks like your tenacity will pay off!
Thanks much for supporting Cheers Virginia, Will! Looking forward to visiting when you all open up!
