The chain, which is making its first entrance into the market, bought the property from a longtime local operator.
“The family grew. We got older, my cousins got older, and we all wanted to be a part of the restaurant. But one restaurant for two families just wasn’t cutting it,” said owner Peter Pergiotis. “So, we had to branch out, we had to divide and conquer.”
Before deciding on a concept, the duo bought the building that houses the restaurant earlier this year due to its location in an opportunity zone.
Nolef Turns, which works to reduce recidivism rates in Virginia, is relocating from the Westwood area in Henrico County to 211 N. 18th St.
“The building and surrounding streets are under massive construction, so we felt like it was the right time to not renew and move on,” said franchisee Kevin Donham.
Zac Frederick’s Crescent Development listed 2018 E. Broad St. for sale earlier this month, with approved plans and permits included for an 18-unit project.
“It’s multi-use for sure,” said Blu Hazel co-owner Yedda Stancil. “Casual, in home, sip and shop, shop while someone sips.”
Antar and Nael Abouzaki own buildings elsewhere downtown and in the Fan, including a Grace Street property slated for a new development and an old bank building on Main Street.
