Alexa Schuett, who owns Liberty Public House, Riverbend Roastery and the soon-to-open Chimbo Sandwich Shoppe, is working on her fourth concept in the neighborhood.

Jay Bayer, who also co-owned former Jackson Ward restaurant Saison, is teaming up with Bingo colleague Adam Stull on the restaurant, which will fill the former Brookland Park Kitchen.

The South Richmond-based company was launched in 2020 by Jim Hamilton, a chef who’s worked at local spots like Kuba Kuba and for the likes of Phish, Jon Bon Jovi, Beyoncé and other performers.

A jury found restaurateur Tiara Black not guilty this week in an arson case that featured two witnesses who claim she paid them to torch former Lakeside outpost of Carytown Burger & Fries in order to recoup insurance proceeds.

While the Purrfect Bean may be Richmond’s only cat café, it isn’t the city’s first. Shockoe Bottom used to be home to cat café Central Purrk on Main Street.

The Beet Box plans to open next month at 2400 Jefferson Ave., a storefront recently vacated by North End Juice Co. It’ll be Beet Box’s second location.
