“What we’ve been doing since the pandemic isn’t working,” Diehl said. “Even if this blows up, we’re back to where we started. We can’t sit around and wait for change to happen.”
The fast-casual taco chain joins an &pizza and Raising Cane’s also planned at the development, where a Chase Bank branch has already opened.
“We are dredging the marina to depths that haven’t been seen in more than 50 years,” said owner Max Walraven, who also owns two dredges and said he has spent over $100,000 on the effort.
The restaurant is the second location of the Kismet Modern Indian concept from Karma and Kismet Food Group, which operates restaurants in Alexandria and D.C.
The location will be the second for wife-and-husband team Aimee and Todd Henkle, who also own The Vineyards & Winery at Lost Creek in Northern Virginia.

Marketed as “an indoor wonderland,” the 55,000-square-foot venue consists of an 18-lane duckpin bowling alley, an 18-hole mini golf course, three virtual golf bays, three bars, a food hall with six restaurants, a beer garden area with 30 self-pour taps, a 200-person banquet hall and a 200-seat auditorium.
“They’re really hellbent on wanting to do something with this mall,” said Verseau Bistro owner Cheryl Wittman. “Just listening to mall management and how they seem excited about the new investment firm taking over, how great would it be if the mall turned around and I’m on the ground floor of it?”
Pure Green is the latest chain to sign on at the Publix-anchored shopping center, its first location in Virginia.
