Businessman takes cover in bankruptcy court

A Henrico entrepreneur and his company each filed for bankruptcy this week amid a two-year legal battle with a competitor and after being sued by one of Richmond’s biggest law firms.

The Docket: Court Roundup for 6.14.11

The Economic Development Authority of the City of Richmond is seeking judgments from a handful of businesses and a major local law firm is trying to collect $200,000 from a client. Plus Padow’s Deli is trying to get rid of a franchisee it says isn’t paying its bill, while landlords try to collect backed rent from a record store chain. And a plaintiff is suing the Greater Richmond Transit Authority for, $1 million, claiming he was tossed from the bus into a metal bench by the bus driver when he refused to get off the bus or pay the additional fare.

The acquisition that wasn’t

One of Richmond’s biggest law firms was rebuffed last year in its attempted takeover of a West Coast firm.

LeClairRyan rings in the year loud and clear

The Richmond law firm announced Monday the addition of more than 35 attorneys and employees across the country and a new office in Rochester, N.Y.

From big firm to “boutique” firm

Another group of Richmond lawyers has caught the entrepreneurial bug. Fifteen lawyers from several LeClairRyan offices have left the Richmond-based law firm to set out on their own.
