The Scene: BizSense after hours

RVA beer-lovers and the people who love them poured into Hardywood Park Craft Brewery on July 4 for Brewdependece Day. About 5,000 people — three times the number organizers expected and planned for — attended the event, which celebrated Virginia breweries’ ability to sell glasses of beer on site, which was made legal July 1.

Hardywood is “still tallying up the beer sales, but we definitely moved through a lot — we ran out of Singel kegs at around 9:45,” said Eric McKay, the brewery’s president and co-founder.

SausageCraft, Pizza Tonight, Station 2 and Gelati Celesti were on hand to provide grub. Check out our photos and the Twitter-sphere’s reaction below.

Congrats to Hardywood on all their success!! Who knew that in less than a year they would have to worry about 5000 people showing up at their doorstep all at once. I’m sure many business in Richmond would love to have the same problem. Amazing.
