A newcomer has joined the Libbie-Patterson retail corridor.
Beckon Home opened last month at 5726-B Patterson Ave. in the Near West End.
The space combines a storefront that sells art, furniture, home decor and gifts with owner Taylor Raquet’s interior design firm.
It’s Raquet’s first time as a business owner after years of retail experience. She said she felt the market was lacking an interior design firm that had a public-facing showroom and retail shop.
Beckon Home’s retail space offers clients a peek at what to expect from the company’s interior design arm. Raquet compared the traditional process of selecting an interior designer for one’s home to getting married.
“You feel like, ‘I’m putting my eggs in one basket and it’s a lot of money. I’m going to go down this path with this person and I don’t really know what their spaces might look like. I might have a general idea, but I haven’t sat on anything,’” Raquet said.
Since opening, Raquet said Beckon Home’s business has seen a solid split between retail and interior design customers, and has pulled in customers of all ages.
“The reception’s been multigenerational. We had a 20-year-old buy a marble coffee table, and then people my mom’s age will come in,” she said.
Beckon Home has a staff of six, including Raquet.
She added that she’s done only residential interior design so far, but is exploring the idea of dipping into commercial.
Beckon is leasing the 2,200-square-foot space that was formerly home to Vignette’s by Design. The other half of the space is home to Relics to Rhinestones. Ann Schweitzer Riley of One South Commercial handled the lease negotiations.
Beckon Home sits next to Westhampton Pastry Shop and across the street from the former Westhampton School, which after years of fits and starts is now set to be transformed into a mixed-use development by Thalhimer Realty Partners.
