The new six-story, $124 million building on the site of what was the university’s Franklin Street Gym is well underway and headed for completion in March.
Both undertakings involve a bit of mystery: The retail site’s grocery anchor is being kept secret for now, while the county has previously been in talks with an unidentified developer for land near the Sportsplex that includes the former Southside Speedway.
Two other new tenants are lined up for the Publix-anchored project: Starbucks and restaurant chain Burtons Grill & Bar.
Though the expansion is a small one – Cronies is adding 66 square feet via the takeover of a space adjacent to its current 154-square-foot digs – the extra legroom will allow the store to introduce footwear for the first time in addition to more inventory of other products.
