A dozen Church Hill entrepreneurs have some extra spending money going into the holidays.
Bon Secours Richmond Health System and Capital One awarded $110,000 to 12 businesses on Monday as part of the annual Supporting East End Entrepreneurship Development grant program.
Funded with $100,000 from Bon Secours and $10,000 from Capital One, the grants are intended to increase development along Richmond’s 25th Street and Nine Mile corridor.
Church Hill businesses have to apply, with the only requirement being that they have a 23223 zip code and are based inside Richmond’s city limits.
This year’s winners included a pudding producer, laundry business, hot dog shop, bike tour company, a salon and pastry maker. Of the 12 winners for 2015, five had received money from the program in previous years.
Twenty businesses applied for a Seed grant this year – down from 36 applicants in 2014. In its five years, the Seed program has given $341,000 to 27 businesses, according to a news release.
To go along with the funding, grant winners get business planning and coaching from Local Initiatives Support Corp., a nonprofit that helps other nonprofits that serve low-income communities.
This year’s Seed recipients are:
Juliette Highland and Christopher Davis for Boudreaux’s, forthcoming restaurant at 412 N. 25th St.
Marian H. Fields for C. Alexander’s Cleaners, eco-friendly dry cleaner
Jaida Curreton for Jade Salon, hair care salon
Heather A. Hoark for Kolache, pastry maker
