Retail vacancy continues to rise

Vacancy for retail space in Richmond rose to almost 7 percent at the end of the second quarter. And that could mean banks might soon start taking back some retail properties if tenants don’t start signing leases soon. Meanwhile tenants who do sign leases are getting bigger discounts than six months ago.

Two Short Pump restaurants close their doors

Dave & Buster’s to debut at West Broad Village

Dave & Buster’s, a restaurant chain based in Dallas, is opening their first Virginia location at West Broad Village in Short Pump. The grand opening is scheduled for April 20. Pizza turnover in Short Pump

There are two new pizza joints on scene in Short Pump. This past week, eco-friendly chain Pizza Fusion opened a location at Short Pump Station near Trader Joe’s. The company prides itself on using organic ingredients and earth-friendly suppliers. Meanwhile, the Bottom’s Up on Nuckols Road changed hands.

Foster’s Grille Closed, New Irish Pub To Take Place

Burger joint Foster’s Grille at the Shoppes At Innsbrook has closed. Open for only about a year, the Innsbrook location had a big lunchtime crowd, but didn’t seem to have many customers for dinner.  The spot won’t stay vacant for long, though.

New Kroger Store Opening Date Pushed Back

The opening of a Short Pump Kroger has been postponed. The Corner At Short Pump, a 47-acre retail and residential development on West Broad Street at Lauderdale Drive, will feature a high-end, 86,000 square foot Kroger store when finished. Short Pump Town Center gets a little more social

Add Short Pump Town Center to the list of businesses that want in on the social networking trend. The mall’s owners plan to launch Shoptopia.com this week as a new site aiming to direct shoppers who enjoy online shopping to local brick-and-mortar shopping centers. The site was developed by Denver-based Mallfinder Network.

Short Pump grocers ready to fight fresh competition

Consider yourself warned, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. Two of Short Pump’s original higher end grocers are ready to fight to retain their upscale shoppers.
