A West End spin studio has spun to a stop.
Tidal Wheel closed over the weekend at 5807 Patterson Ave. The studio was located behind the Shops at 5807, near the intersection of Patterson and Libbie avenues.
Opened in 2013 by Ryan Kelly, Mike Timms and Leigh Johnson, the studio announced the closure in an email sent out to its subscribers list in early February and on its social media channels. Attempts to reach Tidal Wheel ownership were unsuccessful.
“After six years of tapping it back, we are sad to announce that March 3, 2019 will be our final day of operation at our Richmond studio,” Timms and Kelly wrote in the email. “Our hope is that TW was able to positively impact your health and simply give you 45 minutes of respite in this otherwise stressful world we all live in.”
The group also had a Tidal Wheel shop in Virginia Beach that it planned to close, but another operator bought that location and kept it open, per a post on Tidal Wheel’s Facebook page.
Tidal Wheel occupied about 600 square feet in the Patterson complex, which also houses Pleasants Hardware, Barrel Thief Wine Shop and Café, and Pearl’s Bake Shoppe, which recently relocated from 5812 Grove Ave.
There are a handful of locally owned cycling gyms in the region, including Boho Studios’ two locations in the Museum District and Church Hill, Sweet Spot Cycling in Lakeside and Flow Cycle Studio in Short Pump. National chain Cyclebar has a location in GreenGate in Short Pump.
