New bites

Executive chef Chase Seymour of the Dominion Club in Glen Allen was named employee of the year this month at an award ceremony held by HHHunt, owner of the Dominion Club.

Sedona Taphouse in the Westchester Commons in Midlothian added a few beers this month: Maui Coconut Porter, Maui Bikini Blonde Lager, Maui Mana Wheat, Maui Big Swell IPA, Dogfish Head Noble Rot, Sam Adams Alpine Spring and Ommegang Seduction. The taphouse also just began serving lunch Wednesday through Sunday.

The owners of Tarrant’s Cafe on West Broad Street plan to open Tarrantino’s, a seafood and fried chicken restaurant, on Brook Road this summer.

Tom Leppert, owner of Shockoe Slip restaurant Sam Miller’s, opened Kai, a nightclub next door on East Cary Street.

Island Bistro moved from its North Second Street location and reopened Feb. 9 at 1726 E. Main St.

Nightclub and restaurant 2113 opened Feb. 22 at 2113 E. Main St.

Q Barbecue opened its third location Feb. 14 at Virginia Center Commons. It also has locations in Midlothian and Hampton.

Second helpings

Black Hand Coffee will move to a bigger location in April.

Street Deli, a gourmet panini cart, is back up and running at 10th and Byrd streets.

Rooster Cart, a vegan food cart from the previous owners of Café Gutenberg, just opened behind Banditos.

Richmond Magazine hosted its first Elbys awards ceremony to honor the top restaurants in the area.

Nelson County-based Devils Backbone Brewing Co. started shipping a few of its beers to Richmond.

Pizza restaurant BlowToad opened in the old Double T’s BBQ space on West Cary Street across from the Byrd Theatre.

Kitchen Thyme, a commercial kitchen for rent by the hour, opened for business Feb. 10.

Lamplighter’s new shop, Kickstand, opened in Scott’s Addition at the end of January.

Peter Chang’s China Cafe opened Feb. 7 for lunch and dinner in Short Pump Village.

Byram’s Lobster House on West Broad Street closed in late January. Owner Jeff Kelso reopened the seafood restaurant as Tower Fish House this month.

I had an unbelievably delicious (and big) sandwich from Rooster Cart last week. I think they may be moving to a new location soon. I’ll be looking out for it!
