A $2 million land deal has cleared the way for the second phase of an under-construction development that’s slated to bring more than 200 apartments to Henrico’s Westwood area.

A residential real estate team backed by an online brokerage has found a brick-and-mortar home in western Henrico, less than a mile from where a new player in the market is planting its own flag near Short Pump.

More than 200 new apartments are being eyed at Rocketts Landing, after the riverfront neighborhood’s developer filed plans days before the coronavirus pandemic swept the nation.

A major mixed-use project across from Rocketts Landing has taken another step toward blasting off.

The second phase, which will include a $40 million apartment complex, received zoning approval in 2016, but activity at the site only started in recent months.

The six-story, 53-unit building will rise next to the existing Centennial Apartments building at the southwest corner of Main and Sixth streets.
