A national burger joint soon will be stuffing itself into a Southside shopping center, taking over for a coffee shop chain that is moving across the street.

One of the two restaurants is taking over the Short Pump location of Chinese joint Peter Chang, which will be moving next door. The other is a Maryland-based chain opening its first Virginia location.

The local coffee roaster opened its new outpost across from Scott’s Addition last week. Another spot is planned for Forest Hill.

A New York restaurant couple has chosen Richmond for the second location of Gersi, which opened in Brooklyn in 2016.

The Richmond-based regional bar and restaurant chain is opening a new location – this time near George Mason University.

“There are several chains that are in the suburbs, and I think you’re seeing people look for something else to meet their dining needs,” Chris Tsui said. “That presents us with an opportunity.”

A restaurant group from D.C. is bringing a new food and beverage trend to the booming city neighborhood, with a local brewery in tow as its anchor tenant.
