The Brew

A deal on draft

Beer enthusiasts will have even more selection at restaurants and convenience stores across Richmond after a local distributor picked up a handful of new beer labels, one of which it hopes can swipe market share from local favorite PBR.

Not so micro now

By now most beer drinkers are used to Magic Hat, a Vermont beer that’s now ubiquitous in Richmond. Another Vermont brew has come to town.

Whiskey startup goes down smooth

Two friends from Collegiate hatched a business plan while at a Virginia Tech football game, and now they’ve got their very own Richmond whiskey to pour at this season’s tailgate parties.

What’s on tap? Beer-tracking technology

Forget Big Brother. From its headquarters in Powhatan County local startup InteliTap, tracks kegs of beer from the brewery to the moment its contents are poured into a customer’s frosty glass. The company can notify a bar owner anywhere in the world when a barkeep is a little too generous with a pint of the good stuff. And business is set to grow 80 percent this year.
